The West Babylon resident, who prosecutors are not naming to protect the victims’ identities, pleaded guilty to multiple sex crimes in Suffolk County Court on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
According to prosecutors, the man began sexually abusing his daughter, now age 10, during visitation periods when she was still wearing diapers. The abuse continued when he moved to West Babylon in November 2020.
The last incident occurred during a camping trip at the Peconic River campground in May 2022.
Prosecutors noted that the child was so young when the abuse began that she did not understand what the man was doing to her was wrong.
The victim finally told a friend at school about the abuse and the friend encouraged her to tell her mother, which she did. Her mother then contacted police.
Shortly after the man was arrested, his 12-year-old son revealed to investigators that his father had also sexually abused him for the past year during court-ordered visits.
“This defendant’s heinous actions robbed his children of the feelings of love, safety and security that a father should provide,” said Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney.
“Their courage and resilience in the face of such horrific abuse is nothing short of inspiring, and I hope that this plea provides them with some measure of peace in knowing that the defendant will no longer be able to harm them.”
In court Wednesday, the defendant pleaded guilty to two counts of course of sexual conduct against a child, a felony.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, Oct. 6.
